Smoking Weed Is Strictly Banned At 16 Colleges And Universities Across Canada
Earlier this year, Halifax banned smoking in nearly every public area across the city.
Now, a well-known Toronto-based college has followed suit, banning smoking completely on all of its property, including outside areas.
It is the latest of many colleges and universities in Canada to do such a thing.
George Brown College in downtown Toronto has announced that all cigarettes, vaping products and marijuana smoking will be banned completely on its campus property.
Students who do wish to smoke will be able to do so on sidewalks, which are the city of Toronto's property. But, smokers will need to stay at least 9 metres away from entrances to the school.
The move makes George Brown the latest Canadian post-secondary school to ban smoking completely.
Many schools are trying to figure out what to do about cannabis use on campus when it is officially legalized later this year - banning all smoking is one solution.
Numerous other schools across the country have also done it as well. Most recently is Vanier College in Quebec, which passed a similar rule for smoking on its campus last week.
Some of Canada’s major universities have done it as well. McMaster University in Hamilton, Dalhousie University in Halifax and the University of Winnipeg all have rules against smoking on campus grounds.
At least 11 other smaller schools across Canada have banned smoking as well, inckuding:
1. College of the North Atlantic
2. Holland College
3. University of Prince Edward Island
4. Trinity Western University
5. Emily Carr College of Art + Design
6. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology
7. Yukon College
8. Acadia University
9. Saint Mary’s University
10. University of King’s College
11. Memorial University of Newfoundland
Needless to say, Canadian students who smoke may have a harder time deciding on a post-secondary school than those who don't.
