Six people were charged under the Cannabis Act (CA) for having over 21,000 illegal cannabis plants and over 181 kilograms of processed illegal weed, which was likely a joint effort in the budding cannabis growing industry.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, their Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PFJCET) sent out two CA search warrants on October 14 to a couple of greenhouse locations and two residences in Vineland and St. Catharines.

The total value of the seized goods could be as high as $22 million.

Six people ranging from 34 to 67-years-old were charged under the Cannabis Act with possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to the section where you can cultivate, and propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that's not their own home.

Xiaoqian Wang, Xiao Chen, Erxiang Sun, Ming Hua Xue, Xiaping Lin and Qiangzheng Sun, of Toronto, Scarborough, and St. Catharines, are all expected to appear at an Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharine's on December 23.

Under the CA, Canadian adults are allowed to cultivate up to four weed plants per household (and not per person.) The Ontario government also added that you can only grow your own cannabis plants for personal use, and with starting material that is bought from the Ontario Cannabis Store or another authorized retailer.
