A TTC Intercom Randomly Started Playing A Recording Of An Audiobook And We've Never Been More Confused
There was a free listening party of a mystery novel on a TTC platform yesterday. We didn't get the memo, and neither did anyone else. Several confused subway riders shared videos of an intercom playing an audio recording of Inferno - a novel by Dan Brown, an American author who also published The Da Vinci Code.
The novel was playing from a Passenger Assistance Intercom at an elevator on the Dundas West subway platform. The incident was completely inexplainable - even TTC customer service had no idea what was going on.

In the video, the narrator is reading an excerpt from Chapter Two, so it's possible that the audiobook had already been playing for a while.
When Twitter users brought it to their attention, the TTC customer service team responded with, "The elevator is reading a novel? You'll have to give me a little more context, this sounds interesting!"
#Books are everywhere in #Toronto, even on an elevator. "Why was this TTC elevator playing #DanBrown’s #novel on the intercom? https://t.co/f6AMxlXLF7 via @torontostar #authors #audiobooks #writers #novels #novelists
After some investigation, one commenter identified the novel as Dan Brown's Inferno. The TTC confirmed it with a Wikipedia link. But, the TTC has yet to officially verify the incident or provide a real explanation.
A video apparently (TTC has not verified) showing a Passenger Assistance Intercom reading out a novel from the Da Vinci Code series (I can't tell which). https://t.co/0OjNljUBik
Ongoing story, more to come - this definitely isn't the end of this chapter.
