A Two-Toed Sloth Weighing Less Than A Pound Was Just Born At The Miami Zoo (VIDEO)
A baby sloth has made history. For the first time ever at the Miami Zoo, a two-toed sloth has been born. On July 16, Marge and Montey the sloths became the most adorable new parents in the world when their tiny baby sloth was born to the Miami Zoo.
The tiny baby, born weighing just under a pound, is remarkably cuddly, hanging onto its mom with the signature baby sloth hug.
Marge, a 2-year-old sloth, gave birth at about 3:15 pm on Tuesday, July 16, according to the zoo's announcement. Marge carried her baby for about 10 months. Montey, the baby sloth's dad, is the same age as Marge and came to the zoo from the same breeder in October 2016. This happy little family has been sticking together.

Two-toed sloths are native to Central America and northern parts of South America. They are tree-dwelling herbivores, sitting high in rainforest canopies and snacking adorably on leaves and berries. Fun fact: sloths eat with their feet. Two-toed sloths live about 20 years in the wild but can live up to 40 years in captivity, which is good news for the baby sloth.
You may have to wait several weeks before you can see this fuzzy cutie in person. According to the Miami Zoo, Marge and the baby will be off display for some time while the two bond and zookeepers monitor the baby's health. Check the zoo's Facebook and Instagram for updates on when the sloths will be back on exhibit.
After the recent birth of a baby rhino, the Miami Zoo let its Instagram followers decide the baby's name. Stay tuned on the zoo's Instagram page to find out if you can vote on a name for the baby sloth!
