Albertans Are Being Told By The Government To Follow Specific Steps After Traveling

“How to self-isolate.”

The life of a traveller has become a lot less care-free lately. Amidst what is now understood as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Government has issued a number of travel advisories. The Government of Alberta has done the same, and as of Wednesday, March 11 they have issued updated recommendations for travellers returning home. The Alberta coronavirus update for travellers outlines a number of steps and precautions for all the globetrotters out there.

The Alberta Government tweeted an update that explained that the recommendations are to prevent COVID-19. They advised that anyone returning from Italy, Iran & Hubei, China must self-isolate for two weeks “even if well.”

In addition, anyone who’s left the country must “monitor for symptoms” for two weeks upon return.

They also explained that anyone over the age of 65 with medical conditions simply shouldn’t travel outside Canada at all.

According to the provincial government’s website, the World Health Organization (WHO) has “declared a pneumonia outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus a pandemic.”

As of now, there are 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta and 103 in the country. There has been one death from the virus thus far.

Within the info for returning travellers, anyone returning from a Grand Princess cruise ship is also advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.

If you’re wondering what self-isolation actually looks like, they offer a user-friend guide entitled “how to self-isolate.” The guidelines say you must “avoid close contact with others, especially seniors and people with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems.”

In addition, you can’t go to work, school, or any sort of social event or public gathering. An introvert’s dream and an extrovert’s nightmare.

You also need to watch for symptoms that include “fever, cough or difficulty breathing.” If you do develop symptoms, you should call Health Link (811) right away.

Basically, you need to stay in your house for two weeks after returning from Italy, Iran, Hubei, or a Princess Cruise.
