Alberta Drivers Beware Of Freezing Rain Causing Intense Traffic, Car Accidents And Road Closures
Earlier this morning, drivers in Alberta were surprised on their morning route to work to find out that icy roads have caused crashes, accidents, intense traffic, and delays when travelling into the city of Edmonton.
Now, locals are trying to figure out ways into the city after roads were blocked off, shut down and some are at a standstill because of the slick and icy roads. According to the Environment Canada, a "Freezing Rain" warning is in effect for the city of Edmonton and the surrounding areas.
This morning at 10:25 local time, Environment Canada issued a "Freezing Rain" warning for Edmonton and the neighbouring areas. Freezing rain is occurring at the moment and expected throughout the day. Freezing rain is known for causing icy and slippery roads when the air temperatures are above zero.
We've seen on Twitter that many locals have been dealing with high amounts of traffic, closed roads and car accidents due to the surprise weather.

Can confirm, LRT way better option into downtown; if you’re stuck on a bus but within walking distance of Whyte, abandon ship, grab a 4 or 7 to the university and take the train. #yegtraffic
Oof. The #7 went about 6 blocks in 30 minutes before I bailed; if you can, avoid 99st routes into downtown entirely. I’m headed to the LRT. #yegtraffic
