Another Extreme Cold Weather Alert Has Officially Been Issued In Toronto Today
Earlier this week, Torontonians began preparing for the cold after weather officials notified residents that the upcoming weekend would be a chilly one, to say the least. Unfortunately, it seems those extreme dips in temperature are arriving sooner than many planned for as a cold weather alert has now been issued for tonight.

Extreme cold weather alerts are typically issued when temperatures are expected to dip as low as -15°C or when factoring wind chill, it's expected to feel like -20°C or even chillier. In today's case, it's going to feel like -18°C when factoring in wind chill this evening.
If you were hoping the weekend would be a little bit better, unfortunately, it's looking even worse. Saturday and Sunday's forecasts set at -9°C and -14°C. Though if it's any consolation, at least we aren't one of the areas in Ontario that are dealing with temperatures as low as -50°C this week.
As always with extreme cold weather alerts, there is a 24-hour warming centre available for those who are unable to seek shelter that is located at Metro Hall. The location is set to open by 7:00 PM at the latest and will remain open up until 12:00 PM on the following day. During the alert, local outreach staff are also making rounds throughout the city and if you are struggling for transit, TTC tokens are often available at some of the drop-in areas.
Torontonians are also being reminded that during these alerts you should be checking the weather before leaving your house, dressing appropriately, considering rescheduling your plans if they are occurring outside and helping out vulnerable friends or family if they are in need of help with preparing.
