America's UFO 'Welcome Center' Is A South Carolina Wonder
Roadside attractions might be the best part of family vacations and long roadtrips. The coolest ones are the hardest to find, but once they're scoped out, they become a must-see on every trip. There’s one attraction in South Carolina that’s not only cheap, but it's one visitors will never forget.
The UFO Welcome Center is located in Bowman, South Carolina. South Carolina Native Jody Pendarvis created this unique attraction actually created this travel stop location for humans and extraterrestrials.
The largest alien spaceship has multiple levels for visitors to check out. Pendarvis began building this unique structure in 1994 with the idea of wanting it to be a location that aliens could feel comfortable when meeting people from Earth, according to Roadside America.
The main UFO is 46-feet-wide and has a bathroom, air conditioning and even a TV. There's also a smaller UFO saucer on top that visitors can climb up to. Inside is mostly scrapped metal and wires.
When visitors first view the structure, they might think it’s been abandoned or no longer operational, but that's actually the aesthetic Pendarvis was going for.
Visitors are invited to just knock on Pendarvis' door and gain entrance to explore for just $1. If travelers don't want to explore inside this extraterrestrial creation, they can simply take photos and admire from afar.
Roadside America also explained that the creator of this sculpture loves showing off this home, whether his visitors are “humans or aliens."
In 2001, The Daily Show host Stephen Colbert took a tour of the attraction. He even added it as a full segment on his show.
Aside from the $1 fee to tour the saucers, there is a tip jar at the entrance if visitors feel led to give a little more to help Jody Pendarvis continue his alien correspondence dreams.
If aliens ever come to Earth, this might be the first place they'll want to explore.
