BC Green Leader Emily Lowan wins bid for riding on Vancouver Island
The Canadian Press decision desk is projecting victory for BC Greens Leader Emily Lowan in the Vancouver Island riding of Saanich North and the Islands.
Lowan became leader of the provincial Greens in September 2025, succeeding Sonia Furstenau.
At 26, Lowan is among the youngest leaders of a major political party in Canada.
She takes over the riding from fellow Green Rob Botterell, who won the seat in 2024 but decided not to seek re-election.
The riding is a Green stronghold, having been held by Adam Olsen from 2017 to 2024.
Before leading the Greens, Lowan was a climate action activist who played a key role in a student-led campaign at the University of Victoria that resulted in the school directing investments away from fossil fuels.

What people are saying about the B.C. election campaign
The snap election in British Columbia is over and Lorne Deorkson has led his Conservatives to victory.
Here's what some notable people are saying about the election.
Stockwell Day, a former federal Conservative cabinet minister, at the B.C. Conservative’s postelection party:
“It’s been a great campaign, I think the strategy was right. I think people just want back to normal. I think the other part of the strategy was just to stand back and let Mr. Eby keep talking and it seems to have worked."
__
Former Green Party MLA Rob Botterell at the Green Party's postelection party on Leader Emily Lowan:
“I am so proud of Emily and the campaign she's run. And what I see when I talk to folks in Sidney and in the riding is they're equally just totally impressed by Emily and her poise and her advocacy and her passion and her vision."
__
Brian Gardiner, former NDP provincial director at the New Democrat postelection party:
"There's no question Lorne Doerkson was a better opponent than John Rustad was and ran a much better campaign that was run two short years ago," he said. "I think I would have said that it would have been worth waiting a couple of weeks to understand what was going to shake out in terms of both municipal campaigns and the Conservative leadership. But at the same time, the campaign was ready to go and its hard when you are ready to go and not go forward with the plans you have."

Auston Matthews' Famous Moustache Is In Danger & Only You Can Shave It
Shave the date! If you’ve never been a fan of Auston Matthews' moustache then you’re in luck. The Leafs star has promised to shave his fuzzy upper lip, but only if it’s for a good cause.
“Some of you love it, most of you hate it. And now, the fate of my moustache is in your hands,” Matthews shared in a video on Instagram.
The player says he will commit to shaving so long as he can raise $134,000 for Movember by the end of the month.

The video goes on to show Matthews reading internet comments about his famous facial hair.
“Auston Matthews gets home after a long day of work and hangs that moustache up on his coat rack,” one comment reads.
Upon hearing the news, fans were torn, expressing their thoughts in the comments section of the video.
Some claim he’d raise more money if he promised to never shave. Other fans would be happy to see it go, convinced the stache has brought bad luck to the team.
Even Justin Bieber’s father Jeremy hopped in the comments to share his thoughts. “You shave your duster and I will grow mine,” he promised.
Whether you love it or hate it, the fate of Matthews' moustache lies in your hands now.
