Obama Just Revealed His Favourite Thing About Canadians While He Was Visiting
Ontario’s capital city got a visit from a former president on January 23. Barack Obama was in Toronto to speak at an event put on by the Economic Club of Canada and the Global Institute for Conscious Economics. There, he revealed his favourite thing about Canadians.
“You're just so reasonable,” the ex-president said, according to the Canadian Press, “Canadians are super reasonable.”
In addition, the former U.S. leader noted that “facts still matter” in the country, saying that the nation should “preserve that,” according to the Toronto Star.
About 6,000 people attended the event. While tickets were expensive, free access was granted to youth from various communities.
The theme of the night was exploring the future of work and the emerging new economy. Obama’s major point was that young people need to find skills that help them stand out.
“Anything that’s replicable, anything that’s repeatable, some machine is going to do better,” he said. He even used the Toronto Raptors’ success to highlight the importance of teambuilding, saying that the team’s president, Masai Ujiri, works with people who have diverse points of view.
The former president also talked about the importance of fighting climate change. He used the opportunity to take a shot at Trump and criticized the rollback of one of his major environmental policies.
“I instituted higher fuel-efficiency standards on cars, and the subsequent administration has now tried to actively reverse them,” Obama said.
“If we can't even do that, where we're going to say, 'We're not going to drive gas guzzlers when other countries don't even have cars, then it's going to be almost impossible to solve the problem.”
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was also attending the event to talk about gender and equality.
From a recent Instagram post, it appeared that she and her old friend managed to get some time backstage to catch up.
The former leader of the United States has always had a special relationship with Canada and even offered his own endorsement of Justin Trudeau during the nation’s federal election.
