There Were Massive Floods All Over BC This Weekend & The Footage Is Terrifying (VIDEO)
Several areas of British Columbia were under flood warnings on Saturday, February 1 as a result of persistent rains that began on Thursday. As of now, warnings in areas such as Metro Vancouver have been lifted, while warnings remain for parts of Vancouver Island. During the disastrous weather events, local states of emergency were declared in the Cowichan Valley and the Fraser Valley. The B.C. floods caused significant damage around the province while also leading to road closures and evacuations in several areas.
According to a tweet by ECCC Weather British Columbia, areas of the province received up to 371 millimetres of rain from Thursday afternoon to Saturday morning. The Abbotsford area received 119 millimetres and Squamish got 166 millimetres.
Global News explains that the North Shore and Metro Vancouver were under flood watch until Saturday, February 1 and many roads in surrounding areas were closed as a result.
Though most roads opened later in the weekend, a number of parks and trails remained closed.
Both Port Coquitlam and the City of Maple Ridge tweeted out warnings for locals to stay away from flooded areas as a result of safety concerns for both people in cars and on foot.
Several municipalities and individuals shared footage and photographs of the flooding and the images range from concerning to absolutely terrifying.
