A Black Bear Just Hijacked A B.C. Vehicle And Canadians Can't Get Enough Of It (VIDEO)

He bear-ly made it out alive!

There are a number of things that you may expect to find when your car alarm goes off first thing in the morning. Perhaps the wind could have shaken your vehicle around, or maybe a pesky squirrel or raccoon could have caused the alarm to sound. Worst case scenario, you may find a person actually trying to steal your car! One thing you probably wouldn’t expect to discover though, is a massive black bear in your car!

Port Moody Police were called to an address in the 1300-block of Ioco Road in British Columbia in the very early hours on Friday morning, following a report that a black bear had managed to break into an SUV, and seemed to be stuck inside.

According to reports from Sargeant Rob Degoey, the homeowners had woken up at around midnight, to the sound of his car alarm going off outside his house. When they went out to investigate, they were stunned to find it was a black bear that had smashed their window and broken into their SUV!

"Initially, the call was that there was a bear locked in a car. Basically, the bear went into a car, locked himself in it and then set the alarm off, which alerted the homeowner to go outside," Degoey explained to CBC News.

Police explained that they were unsure as to why the bear broke into the vehicle, particularly as there was no food present inside. Furthermore, once he was inside, officers are not entirely sure how long he was stuck.

That said, the 2012 Nissan Rogue apparently took quite a beating."It damaged the entire inside of the car," Degoey said.

In a tweet on Friday afternoon, the Port Moody official Twitter page shared a video of their unusual bear encounter, writing, “We are frequently reminded that you never know what you are going to encounter over the course of your shift.” Adding, “This is what awaited our members at a call last night.”

Naturally, Canadian Twitter users were quick to share some witty comments about the situation, with one user joking, “I heard he broke in with his own bear hands. Thanks PMPD!”

Another replied to say, “Hopefully this call wasn’t too much for your officer to bear!”

Thankfully, the B.C. Conservation Service was on hand to help remove and release the confused bear from the locked vehicle. Degoey confirmed that the bear was safely returned back to where he belongs, in nature. “I think that's the best part about the whole thing," he said.

Only in Canada, eh?!
