You Can Camp Under A 1000 Year Old Oak Tree At This Amazing Texas State Park
State parks are almost always worth the road trip it takes to get there. From the beautiful drive to the eventful days ahead, you know you're in for a treat! Goose Island State Park is no exception. With more than enough to do for even just a day, you'll be wondering why you didn't make the trip sooner.
If you've been looking for somewhere to camp there's no better place than this Texas state park. You'll be along St. Charles and Aransas bays, just north of Corpus Christi. There, you'll be able to choose from 44 campsites nearby or 57 sites nestled under oak trees. All of these sites have water and electricity and even restrooms and showers. This isn't the awful camping trip you're remembering from your childhood, this one is like a dream!
Fishing, hiking, boating, and observing the wildlife (especially the birds) is highly recommended during your trip! What is slightly less recommended is swimming, unfortunately. Due to all of the concrete bulkheads, oyster shells, mud flats, and marsh grass, they recommend you reserve your activities for the land. But that's fine, we haven't even gotten to the best part yet!
Goose Island State Park is home to "The Big Tree" which was named after State Champion Coastal Live Oak. It's one of the largest live oak trees in Texas and in the nation! Describing it will never be enough, you'd have to go and see it for yourself. It's an incredible site and makes for beautiful pictures. Get your cameras and your Instragrams ready, folks!
If fishing is what you're interested in while there, keep in mind that you don't need a fishing license to fish from a shore or a pier in a Texas state park. So even if you're licensed and your friends aren't, it's no problem at all. Make sure you have your own boat if you're looking forward to boating, and get ready to enjoy the beautiful bodies of water late at night. This'll be a trip you remember forever!
For more information on Goose Island State Park, visit their official Texas Parks & Wildlife page to learn all you need to know before going. The state park is located at 202 S Palmetto St, Rockport, TX 78382.
We strongly advise that before you go swimming or visit any location, you check the most recent updates on potential hazards, security, water quality, and closures. If you do plan to visit a location, respect the environment.
