You Can Watch Next Months Leaders' Debates In Cineplex Cinemas

First date anyone?

If you had planned to curl up at home to watch the first of the official federal leaders’ debates, think again! Cineplex Cinemas are now offering Canadians the opportunity to watch the debates in a public space, on the big screen. Available for both the English and French language debates, Canadians will be able to enjoy the country's leaders facing-off against one another in ultra-HD, and it sounds brilliant.

If you are someone who loves watching Canada’s leaders get down and dirty in the debates, one of Cineplex Cinema’s “live viewing parties” could be perfect for you. With some screens holding up to several hundreds of people, watching Jagmeet Singh’s hilarious ‘burns’ has suddenly got a lot more exciting.

In a press release from the Leaders’ Debates Commission, more than 20 Cineplex locations across Canada are listed as participating in the ‘live viewing parties,’ with alternate viewing locations also listed.

As part of the release, Commissioner Johnston explains, "The scope and reach by which the debates will be available to all of Canada is unprecedented in our political history." He adds, “It's our hope that all Canadians will come together in this shared experience.”

Speaking about these ‘public viewing parties,’ Johnston explained, "This is an opportunity for the country to come together; to watch or listen to the same thing, at the same time, to gain a better understanding about the issues at hand and what they mean to people throughout the country."

Even better, it could be a great opportunity to take part in a massive, collective version of the ‘unofficial leaders’ debate drinking game', which could definitely get messy.

If this particular cinema-experience sounds a little too intense for you, live viewing parties will also be held at other public locations across Canada, including in libraries, bookstores and other locations. A full list of participating locations can be found here.

If you'd still prefer to watch Canada's leaders face-off in the comfort of your own home, don't worry. According to a news release, this leaders’ debate will be available on an “unprecedented scale,” making it almost impossible to miss.

On October 7 and October 10, you’ll be able to find the debates on 11 television stations, three radio networks, more than 20 social media/digital platforms, in four different accessible formats, and in Arabic, Cantonese, Italian, Mandarin, Punjabi and several Indigenous languages.

The federal election debates are scheduled for Monday, October 7 (English-language) and Thursday, October 10 (French-language).
