March In Canada Makes No Sense With A 60° Difference Between The Hottest & Coldest Spots
Spring and winter are battling it out in the true north. With that comes some drastic temperature differences. Canada weather is so all over the place that there was a 60 C difference between the hottest and coldest spots in the country.
Environment Canada reported that early in the day on March 10, the country's hot spot and cold spot had a difference in temperature that was almost 60 C.
On the cold side, it was absolutely frigid in Eureka, Nunavut, with a temperatures dipping all the way down to -48 C.
That earned the research base the honour of being the coldest spot in the country.
Meanwhile, in Windsor, Ontario, the city's airport reached 11.2 C making it the Canadian hot spot.
That is a difference of 59.2 C between the two places.
According to Environment Canada, it could be even bigger as the wind chill made it feel more like -54 C in Eureka.
Other parts in the territories, the Prairies and out east, are seeing temperatures on the colder side for today, reaching below freezing. Meanwhile, southern Ontario is enjoying mild, spring-like conditions.
Southern parts of the province started the week off on a high note with warm weather and sunny conditions.
Some places even saw temperatures reach the low and mid-teens.
That continued on through to March 10 which made Windsor the hot spot in the country.
When compared to the -48 C temperature experienced in Eureka, 11.2 C is practically beach weather.
However, the warm weather won't last for long.
"Our high temperatures will occur during the morning and then temperatures will slowly fall through the afternoon," said Doug Gillham, a meteorologist with The Weather Network.
It was fun while it lasted though!
According to The Weather Network's spring forecast for this year, most parts of the country won't get consistent warm weather right away.
Places around Hudson's Bay are expected to get below or slightly below average temperatures for the season while areas on the west coast could be in for weather that's warmer than usual.
Spring officially arrives on March 19 but that doesn't mean we're out of the woods when it comes to winter weather!
