Trudeau Says The Canada-US Border Will Open ‘Eventually’ But Not Right Now
Almost a year after the Canada-U.S. border was closed to non-essential travel, Justin Trudeau has urged travellers to be “patient.”
Speaking during a press conference in Montreal on Monday, he acknowledged that both Americans and Canadians are “eager to be able to travel again.”

However, he explained that residents of both sides of the border will have to “wait patiently until such time as the health situation allows us to loosen border restrictions internationally.”
“That'll be eventually, but not for today,” he added.
It comes ahead of the one-year anniversary of the border closure, which was first announced in March 2020. Since then, restrictions have been extended 11 times, with the latest currently set to end on March 21, 2021.
