Canadian Travellers Can Now Apply Filters While Booking To Exclude Boeing 737 Max 8 Planes After The Crash
In the wake of the Ethiopian Airline flight that crashed on Sunday, many Canadians have been questioning the reliability and safety of the Boeing 737 Max 8 planes. Since then, Canadians have not been satisfied with how airlines are responding. Due to these concerns with the still active Boeing 737 Max 8 flights, travel websites and agents have announced that they will be putting a filter system in place that will allow customers to exclude a certain aircraft while they are booking.Â

Since the Ethiopian Airline crash occurred on Sunday, killing all 158 passengers and staff that were on board, many airlines throughout the world have grounded or banned the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. These include China, France, and Germany, who have opted to ground the aircraft in light of the recent crash.
The U.K. also announced yesterday that they were banning all Boeing 737 planes from their airspace, which lead to the cancellation of multiple Air Canada flights that were heading for London. Narcity also reported this morning that Sunwing is the first Canadian airline to also suspend use of this aircraft. However, other Canadian airlines have still not grounded their planes.Â

With concerned customers unsuccessfully attempting to reschedule their flights that are on Boeing 737 planes, Kayak.com has announced that it will be modifying its search filters to allow customers to exclude certain planes from their flight search.Â
Kayak.com, which is part of the Booking.com franchise, will be the first big agency to make this change. Canadians will be able to use the filter option that many already use to filter the price and airline, to also filter out certain aircraft that they do not wish to travel on.Â
Travel agents told Global News that they were also exploring this option of some form of filtered search. After dealing with multiple flight cancellations due to the groundings of the planes, as well as customers wishing to switch off their Boeing 737 planes that are still being used, having a system that allows passengers to filter out certain aircraft while booking may save panic and rebookings in the future.Â

It is still unclear how many travel websites and travel agents will be using this filter system for future bookings.Â
