Yesterday, Trebek made the announcement on air at the Jeopardy! set about his cancer. He started off his speech by saying he has always wished to be completely transparent with his fans, and he wished to keep this promise by ensuring that his fans heard about the news through him first and not other media outlets.
He informed the public that he was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, which has a low survival rate. He told the audience that he would do his absolute best to beat it, and even joked that he couldn't let cancer beat him because he is still contracted to host three more years of Jeopardy!
