Cosmetic Testing On Animals Isn’t Really Banned In Canada And People Are Shook

Bill S-214 doesn't mean the debate is over just yet.

Cosmetic testing on animals has been a controversial subject for years. The argument on whether animals should be the ones to suffer through testing products for human vanity has definitely been a heated one, to say the least. Though, when Canada announced two months ago that the Senate passed Bill S-214, it seemed a resolution had been found.

Bill S-214 outlined that cosmetic animal testing and the sale of cosmetics that had been developed or manufactured by using animal testing would be banned from the country. Once the bill entered the passing process, most Canadians considered the subject resolved and moved on.

Unfortunately, that's just not the case. In reality, while the bill has passed through the Senate, it still needs to move forward to the House of Commons to be approved before it can actually become law. Meaning that animals are still being tested on and those products, as a result, are still being sold in Canada.

For animals lovers and activists who have fought for the bill, the slow process is definitely a frustrating one, considering animals are continuing to suffer while the bill slowly makes it's way to the next step.

This isn't the first time that bills in Canada have taken forever to become law, and definitely won't be the last. For example, the microbead ban didn't actually come into effect until nearly a year after it was passed.

Regardless, as of right now, we will just have to wait until the bill gets through every stage of the law during the Chamber's autumn session.

But, if you want to make an impact before it becomes official, buying cruelty-free cosmetics products and supporting brands that don't test on animals is a great way to do so.
