Dan Levy Is Dr Tam's Newest Inspiration For Convincing Canadians To Use Masks

Levy made the original statement in a video.

The cast of Schitt's Creek appears to have one important fan. Dr. Theresa Tam may have a lot to say about wearing masks in Canada. However, in a recent Twitter thread, she let Dan Levy do the talking.

In a May 28 tweet, Canada's Public Health Officer chose to share the words of Dan Levy, one of the stars and co-creators of the hit Canadian comedy.

"@danjlevy said it best: “Imagine wearing a mask not as an infringement on your freedom, but rather the simplest, easiest act of kindness that you can do in a day...” #HelpOthers #COVID19 #KindnessMatters," Tam wrote in her first tweet.

The quote comes from a video that Levy posted on Twitter on May 19, in which he asked for a "recontextualization" of wearing a mask.

"If you have the good health to leave your house, why not put on a mask," he said, "make it your good deed for the day and do something nice for yourself and other people."

She used Levy's words as a jumping-off point to talk about how even people who do not feel personally at risk from COVID-19 could still be spreading it to others, starting an entirely new chain of transmission.

"This is even more important because some people may not be able to wear a face covering safely," Tam continued, "including people who may be at risk of severe outcomes from #COVID19. #ProtecttheVulnerable #HelpOthers #DontJudge.

Dr. Tam had previously tweeted about the importance of wearing masks when physical distancing is not an option.

However, she also said that not everyone is able to wear a mask, including those who have difficulty breathing, and may therefore be more susceptible to the virus.

"If you can wear a mask safely, this is where YOU come in to #ProtecttheVulnerable, like people who experience difficulty breathing & are advised not to wear a mask that could exacerbate their condition. #COVID19 #DontJudge #KindnessMatters" she continued.

She concluded saying that this would also include children under two years of age or those with disabilities that limit them from removing their mask safely on their own.
