Disney Is Switching Out Minnie Mouse's Iconic Dress & It's Being Replaced By A Pantsuit

Not everyone is happy about the wardrobe change.

You know that iconic polka dot dress that Minnie Mouse has been sporting since 1928?

Well, that outfit is officially getting switched out in 2022, and Disney is replacing it with a trendy pantsuit.

Disney announced the change on Twitter this week, in a move that sparked excitement and more than a bit of outrage from those who will miss the century-old design.

The good news is that although the dress is going, the polka dots are staying.

Designer Stella McCartney came up with the new look to celebrate Disneyland Paris' 30th anniversary, reported the BBC.

"It's gorgeous," Disney wrote on Twitter, along with a photo of the outfit.

"This new take on her signature polka dots makes Minnie Mouse a symbol of progress for a new generation," said McCartney.

Minnie Mouse will be sporting the outfit for the first time at Disneyland Paris in March., and it's a pretty epic way to kick off Women's History Month.

Disney says the new outfit is only a temporary thing, and it's part of an effort to improve diversity among its characters.

Although some are excited about the new change and are encouraging Disney's effort to amp up representation, others are not too fond of the pantsuit.

In particular, conservative American commentator Candace Owens had a lot to say about the outfit, which she claims is an effort to make the famous Disney character "more masculine."

During an interview with Fox News, Owens was asked how she felt about Disney revealing the new outfit, and she definitely did not hold herself back.

"You know, all of us were traumatized when we saw Minnie Mouse, and she was looking like a female as we were growing up," said Owens very sarcastically.

"They're taking all of these things that nobody was offended by and feel like they have to get rid of them and destroy them because they're bored. They're trying to destroy fabrics of our society pretending that there's issues."

Others urged the critics to calm down. They pointed out that other Disney characters have temporarily changed outfits in the past, and society has held together despite the change.

“This ain’t the first time guys,” Twitter user @_Nyxie_ wrote, along with a photo of Minnie in a sailing outfit.

"This photo is years old and no one cared."
