$100K Treasure Hunt In Vancouver Is Causing Complete Chaos In The City
Since June 1, Canadians have been embracing their inner pirate as they have been hunting for treasure throughout the city of Vancouver. Canadian company Gold Hunt had hidden three treasure chests across Canada, each of them containing $100,000 worth of gold and silver coins. So far, two treasure hunters have found $100,000 treasure chests in Edmonton and Calgary, but the hunt for Vancouver's chest still continues, and it's complete chaos.
At 12:01 AM on June 1, treasure maps were sent out to those who had signed up to participate in Gold Hunt's first ever treasure hunt. In less than 24 hours, an Edmonton family ended up discovering the first treasure chest. Only a few days later, Gold Hunt also confirmed that the treasure in Calgary had also been discovered on Wednesday morning.
With the promise of keeping $100,000 worth of gold and silver coins if you're the first one to solve the riddles and find the chest, Vancouverites haven't been giving up. Yet, after seven days of hunting for the treasure, locals are claiming that this hunt is causing complete chaos throughout the city.
According to CTV News, some treasure hunters are digging and searching where they shouldn't be. One resident even told CTV that one of the local parks has faced damage as hunters continue to dig holes throughout it and aren't cleaning up their mess. One resident even states that treasure hunters are "disrespectfully taking apart everything".
Before the hunt, Gold Hunt released an announcement that addressed where residents were allowed to look during the hunt. They stated that the treasure would not be in a location where residents would feel like they needed to call BC One before looking. They also stated that the treasure would be buried, but shallow enough where you would not need a shovel. They started the hashtag #NoShovel to inform hunters that no accessive digging would be needed to find the chest.
Sadly, it seemed a lot of hunters didn't listen to these rules as holes have been found both on private property and throughout parks in Vancouver.
Residents are telling CTV that they wish the hunt will soon draw to a close so they can regain normal life in the area of the hunt. However, so far, the treasure still has not been found and hunters are still searching to claim the prize.
Maps are still being sold for the Vancouver location for anyone who still wants to participate in the hunt. Just remember, you do not need to dig with a shovel to find the treasure.
Gold Hunt states that if these hunts are successful, they want to continue the event all across Canada. They told the Star that the investors behind the project want to give away $1 million over the next three years.
