Doug Ford Says These 2 Industries In Ontario Will Be Exempt From His Hiring Freeze

Good news for some looking for a job.

Yesterday premier-designate Doug Ford introduced a hiring freeze on much of the public sector in an effort to curb what he sees as too much spending by the provincial government.

The freeze is affecting numerous industries in the province, including the Ontario power sector and municipalities.

But Ford says that he will allow 2 industries to be exempt from the hiring freeze for now at least.

Those two industries are teachers and nurses, which is good news for anyone who just graduated school this year having studied either of those things.

Otherwise it would be literally impossible for them to find a job in the province at all right now.

Ford had previously said the hiring freeze did not apply to essential frontline workers such as police, corrections and fire services, which is good for the public at large.

The NDP raised concerns yesterday when the hiring freeze was first announced about which jobs would be considered essential and how that could potentially impact services such as health care and education.

Other industries, such as Crown Agencies like the ROM, will still be affected by the hiring freeze for the time being though.

The hiring freeze is part of Ford’s campaign promise that he would work to put money back in taxpayers’ pockets.
