BC Grants The Easter Bunny 'Eggs-Emption' & Essential Service Status

Because chocolate is essential.

In B.C., you have to self-isolate if you enter the province from another area and all non-essential travel is not advisable. However, there's one special someone who's eggs-empt from the rules and for good reason. The province has joined a Canadian trend and offered the Easter Bunny essential service status so that we don't have to live without chocolate this Easter.

"As the Premier of BC, I'm authorizing a special essential service eggs-emption," wrote Horgan in a tweet posted on Wednesday, April 8.

He tweeted out a pun-filled signed declaration that authorizes the chocolate-gifting rabbit to travel freely through the province.

Specifically, they're exempt from the rules because "spreading egg-cellent cheer" is an essential service according to the Premier.

He's not wrong. Now more than ever, we need good chocolate in our lives.

While some of us might be a bit too old to receive a visit from the Easter Bunny themself, the tweet is a good reminder to treat ourselves to our favourite Easter treats.

Ahead of a weekend filled with religious celebrations, the province has advised that families should stay home and find ways to come together virtually instead.

For many of us, this could be the first time we don't get to connect with our families IRL during this time of year, but we can still have fun by tuning into Horgan's Twitter for gems like this.

In the signed document, the Premier welcomed the Easter Bunny to the province and thanked it for sharing its "positive spirit."If only every official document from the Premier's office had so many puns.

B.C. isn't the only province who's looking out for the Easter Bunny. In Alberta, they've classified it as an essential worker.

Quebec and Ontario's premiers made sure that kids could breathe easy by announcing that it's business as usual for both the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.

The trend may have actually started in New Zealand where the Prime Minister made a similar announcement.

At a time when so much has been cancelled, upended, postponed or held off, it's nice to know that the Easter Bunny is totally unaffected. So much has changed for us but one thing still rings true — chocolate is awesome.
