You Will Now Be Paying Cheaper Electricity Bills For Even Longer In Ontario
The Ontario government announced on Wednesday that it would be extending its electricity rate relief initiative.
Prices will now remain at the off-peak rate of 8.5 cents per kilowatt-hour until February 22, 2021.

We know staying at home means using more electricity during the day when electricity prices are higher, that's why we are once again extending the off-peak electricity rate.
Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy
"We thank Ontarians for continuing to follow regional Stay-at-Home orders to help stop the spread of COVID-19," Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy stated.
The lower rate will be available 24 hours per day, seven days a week for both Time-Of-Use and tiered customers.
Off-peak prices were first installed on January 1, 2021, which means residents will receive 53 days of relief in total.
The move comes as the majority of the province remains under the government's stay-at-home order.
The initiative is set to end on the same day that Toronto, York and Peel are expected to move into Ontario's coloured-zone framework.
A similar initiative was put in place back in March of 2020 after the province first went into lockdown.
