A Man Was Found Shot In A GTA Parking Lot On Tuesday But No Gunshots Were Reported
It's fair to say 2019 has been a truly awful year for gun crime in Toronto and the surrounding area. On Wednesday, September 24, yet another victim was found as what appears to have been an Etobicoke shooting left a man dead in a parking lot. Toronto Police say that though the man died from gunshot wounds, no gunfire was heard despite the victim being found in a heavily-populated residential area.
According to Global News, Toronto Police Duty Insp. Darren Alldrit told reporters a passerby stumbled across the victim lying on the ground in the rear parking lot of the residential area of Rathburn Road and The West Mall, just west of Highway 427. City News reports the parking lot was at the back of 454 The West Mall.
According to CP24, a witness was walking his dog when he saw a body lying on the ground in the lot. The witness said he initially thought it was a person working underneath a vehicle before his dog sprinted toward the body.
The witness saw blood and then realized the man had been shot several times. He added that he noticed several shell casings were lying on the ground next to him.
CBC reports police responded to a call around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Emergency crews said they found an adult male and paramedics treated him for life-threatening injuries but he was found to have no vital signs and was pronounced dead shortly before 3 p.m.
There were no reports of any gunfire being heard in the area, report several sources. Insp. Alldrit seems puzzled by the silence.
"With all these buildings, I'm surprised we didn't get any radio calls in regards to any sounds of gunshots," Insp. Alldrit said, per Global.
Police say there is currently no information on any suspects or whether this was a targeted attack.
The homicide unit is now investigating and appealing for anyone with potential information to come forward.
