Faith Goldy Banned From Airbnb, But Facebook Still Permits Her Controversial Videos

Airbnb has banned conservative commentator and white nationalist Faith Goldy but Facebook won't give her the boot.

It became publicized yesterday that former candidate for Mayor of Toronto Faith Goldy has been banned by Airbnb based on alleged violations to Airbnb's terms of service.  An outraged Goldy posted a snapshot of the email from Airbnb informing her of the ban, accusing the company of discriminating against her on the basis of her political views.

Faith Goldy is a Canadian political commentator whose views have been described as alt-right and white nationalist.  She previously worked for Rebel Media, a Canadian far-right political and social commentary media website, but was terminated from her role at the company after appearing on The Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi website.

Since then, Goldy has become a notorious provocateur, known throughout the city for her white nationalist and white separatist philosophies.  And she hasn't been quiet about it.  Goldy actively participates in the propagation of extremist values on her various social media channels, and as a self-proclaimed white nationalist who monetizes white nationalist content on both Facebook and Instagram, she regularly posts content from VDare, a white nationalist blog.

Goldy has been identified disrupting numerous rallies and diversity events in Toronto.  Just last month, Goldy and her far-right supporters disrupted a vigil and rally in Toronto that honoured the victims of the New Zealand mosque terror attacks.

People on social media have a lot to say about Goldy's ban from Airbnb:

🚨BANNED FROM AIRBNB🚨It’s been over a month since I’ve used @Airbnb.My inbox was littered w reviews like, “Cleanest guest ever!” “Prompt communication, highly recommend.”This ban has nothing to do w my behaviour, it has everything to do w my politics. No opt for recourse! pic.twitter.com/fgefFNLhBP

Like seriously. You have to be a horrible human being to get banned from there. Have you considered not acting like a white supremacist?

Although Airbnb has reportedly banned the white supremacist from using the company's services, Facebook surprisingly hasn't.  Last week, Facebook publicly stated its intention to rid the platform of hateful content by implementing a new policy to ban extremist media, including any posts, videos, pictures, or events that promote white supremacy, nationalism, and separatism.

So what does that policy really mean if Faith Goldy is permitted to spew hate on Facebook?  A Facebook spokesperson tells HuffPost that Goldy's videos have not violated Facebook's new policies, even though it prohibits the promotion and praise of white nationalism.

The company stated in a press release last week, "We didn't originally apply the same rationale to expressions of white nationalism and white separatism because we were thinking about broader concepts of nationalism and separatism — things like American pride and Basque separatism, which are an important part of people's identity."

The juxtaposition between Facebook's new policy and the company's tolerance toward Faith Goldy has left critics scratching their heads.  At what point will the multibillion-dollar social networking service take a stand against Goldy and her white supremacist principles?
