Crazy Fight Between An Octopus & Bald Eagle Was Caught On Camera In BC (VIDEO)
A group of B.C. fish farmers came across an unbelievable scene yesterday that shows just how wild it can be when land animals and sea creatures collide. The Mowi Canada West employees at the Mahatta West farm in Quatsino witnessed a fight between an octopus and a bald eagle and decided to intervene before it got too gruesome.
According to the Instagram post by Mowi Canada, the bald eagle had tried to catch the octopus, but the octopus was having none of it and the bird found itself in quite a compromising situation.
"Our staff at our Mahatta West farm in Quatsino rescued an eagle that had bitten off more than it could chew when it tried to catch an octopus," wrote the fish farming company.
The video begins with the image of the two animals tangled up together at the surface of the ocean. The octopus' tentacles are wrapped around the eagle, the eagle's wings are extended out to the sides, and the two float together in a wrestling hold.
It basically looks like the eagle is wearing the octopus as a very uncomfortable, absolutely terrifying backpack.
The eagle was clearly in distress, so the fishermen decided to try and free the bird from the sea creature's tentacles.
The video shows a fishing hook trying to pull the octopus from the eagle. As the fishermen try to free the bird, the tangled animals are pulled closer to the boat so you can get an up-close view of the battle.
After a few moments, the screen goes black, and when it fades back in, the eagle is free.
"That was amazing. Look at the size of this," one of the voices in the video shouts in total disbelief. “These are the biggest octopus in the world,” he says, gesturing towards the octopus who is swimming out of sight. “We saved that eagle,” someone says.
Save that eagle, they did. The second part of the video shows the eagle standing on the shore nearby. "The octopus swam away unharmed and the eagle recovered on a branch for around 10 minutes before it flew away," explains the video's caption.
There has been no shortage of amazing animal sightings in B.C., from cougars to bears, to whales, and everything in between. However, it's not every day that we see two animals we'd never expect to see together throwing down — half in the water, half out.
