These Florida Beaches Will Be Reopening Just In Time For The Weekend
It seems like it was just yesterday when beaches throughout the Sunshine State were flooded with spring breakers. Luckily, it won't be long for some residents, as a growing number of Florida beaches reopen in time for those looking to bury their toes into the sand. While some have been open since mid-April, there are a few scheduled to reopen by week's end.
Florida has been under a safer-at-home order since April 3. However, it expires on April 30 with no new updates as to the next steps.
In the meantime, these reopenings are a small but welcomed reprieve for some locals who have been cooped up inside since late March.
While Jacksonville was the first to reopen their beaches, counties like Charlotte and Sarasota have followed suit with their reopenings this past Monday.
From the Panhandle to Key West, these counties have announced their roll-out plans to reopen their beaches with standard social distancing rules in place.
Wednesday, April 29
Lee County, except for Fort Myers Beach Pier, will be open from dusk to dawn. This includes preserves and parks.
Hernando County’s two beaches, Pine Island Park in Spring Hill, and the beach area of Rogers Park near Hernando Beach will reopen, but hours are not specified.
Thursday, April 30
Collier County beaches, playing fields, and hard courts will reopen with beaches closing at sunset, and fields and courts closing at 8 p.m.
Friday, May 1
Santa Rosa County's Navarre Beach and pier will be open from 2:30 to 7 p.m.
Gulf County will have two sessions from 6 to 9 a.m. and again from 5 to 8 p.m.
Escambia County and Walton County have resumed their normal hours of operation for the beaches.
As additional counties continue to lift their bans, beachgoers should prepare for more beachside freedom before hurricane season hits.
