A Breathtaking Full "Flower Moon" Will Light Up Skies Across Canada Next Month
Spring is in full swing, even though it may not feel like it in terms of the weather in Canada right now. However, this is going to brighten up the season – literally. Get ready for a beautiful celestial event to come your way, Canadians. May's iconic full "Flower Moon" will be seen across Canada next month. Even though the weather in Canada didn't get the memo that it's supposed to be spring, at least the moon is giving us a nice spring show.
The brightest moon phase in May will be the Flower Moon. It's supposed to represent the blooming of flowers and the warming of the weather that usually takes place during spring and in May. Hopefully, the weather in Canada this year allows for that to happen, as cherry blossoms have yet to bloom in several Canadian provinces due to the recent winter-like weather.
"There is a myriad of wildflowers which bloom in May in the Northern Hemisphere, where these traditional Full Moon names originated. For example, many types of anemone, wild garlic, indigo, bluebells, lupine, sundrops, and violets, to name just a few," says Time and Date about the Flower Moon.
"It is no wonder that the colorful displays these flowers create in nature have inspired people to name this time after them."
So when can you see this moon shining in its peak? This full moon will be visible across Canada next month on Saturday, May 18. Luckily for Canadians in most provinces, unlike April's Pink Moon, you won't need to get up early to see this spectacular celestial event. In fact, you'll actually get to see the moon while there's still some light out.
The Flower Moon will peak at 5:11 PM ET in eastern provinces such as Ontario and Quebec. On the west coast in BC, the peak illumination will be at 2:11 PM PT. In Alberta and Saskatchewan, it will take place at 3:11 PM MDT.
It may seem strange that this full moon peak happens during the day, but it'll still look full in the sky when nighttime falls later that day, and can even start looking full the night before its scheduled peak, according to Time and Date.
So make sure to mark your calendars for May 18 so that you can watch the gorgeous Flower Moon light up skies across Canada.
