Toronto's “Canadian Tire Attacker” Gets Sentenced To Seven Years In Prison

Toronto's "Canadian Tire Attacker" Rehab Dughmosh will be sentenced in court today.

UPDATE  (Feb 14, 11:25 AM ET): Rehab Dughmosh has been convicted of four terrorism-related charges and will serve seven years in prison.

Another infamous Toronto criminal is finally being brought to justice today. Rehab Dughmosh, who is perhaps better known by her media nickname the “Canadian Tire Attacker” is scheduled to appear in court this Thursday where she will be sentenced by a judge. Dughmosh was indicted on four charges of terrorism after she assaulted the employees of a local Canadian Tire with a golf club and knife while garbed in ISIS gear back in June of 2017.

Dughmosh had attempted to make her way to Syria through Turkey back in April of 2016 to join the terrorist group. However, she was apprehended by Turkish authorities after her brother notified the RCMP, who informed the Turkish police. Dughmosh was ultimately refused access to the country and flew back to Canda where she was intercepted by the RCMP.

Dughmosh is without a proper legal team; she is instead legally assisted by an induvial appointed by the courts to help her, who argued that Dughmosh's mental health has improved dramatically since the incident and that her client no longer expresses any homicidal thoughts.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, have been pushing for an eight-year sentence, claiming that they have taken into consideration the defendant’s mental health issues, but still feel a strong need to denounce and punish her actions.

The judge overlooking the case was asked to review Dughmosh's psychiatric history alongside her treatment records from prison before laying down their sentence. Dughmosh had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against her but did not offer up any evidence in her own defence to support the argument.
