Freezing Rain & Ice Pellets Are About To Make Your BC Commute A Slippery Nightmare
If you’re in British Columbia and you were planning on driving anywhere today, you may want to rethink hopping behind the wheel. In fact, you might want to rethink going outside altogether. Environment Canada has officially issued weather warnings for a large section of central British Columbia. The warnings indicate freezing rain in B.C. along with some other unfavourable weather conditions.
Be careful out there, several roads, sidewalks, and highways will be complete slippery messes.
Warnings are in effect for 100 Mile, Bulkley Valley, Chilcotin, Prince George, and Nechako, among other places. According to Environment Canada, Arctic air in combination with a Pacific warm front are to blame for the freezing rain.
They also warn that the freezing rain may be mixed with ice pellets or snow. The freezing rain is expected to shift to normal old rain showers in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 12.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas," warns Environment Canada.
Like we said, today might be more of a Netflix inside day than a road trip in B.C. day. If you must venture out onto the road, do so with extreme caution.
We suggest leaving early, driving slow, and trying to get your driving done in the daylight. Or, you know, stay inside and wait until tomorrow to hop in your car.
Now that Halloween has passed, it's officially wintertime and mother nature is not waiting around to kick into high gear. Luckily, B.C. is actually in for a milder winter than usual this year.
In fact, Vancouver is expecting hardly any snow over the next few months.
Though this weather warning seems bleak, B.C. locals should count their blessings. The rest of Canada has already been having a rough winter. Many of the coldest places on earth right now are in Canada.
Freezing rain is less than ideal, but it could certainly be worse. Stay safe out there and take extra caution if you need to drive to where you're going today.
