Texas Sports Teams Can Start Hosting Games At The End Of The Month

They'll be empty stadium games.

The entire state is starting to slowly open back up, with restaurants, salons, bars, theaters, and more reopening their doors to customers. Sports teams are also hoping to get in on the action and start hosting games again, though they know how different games will have to be if they do. Greg Abbott thinks Texas sports should continue starting May 31, as long as they involve empty stadiums with no fans.

Over the past weeks, the idea of sports returning with no fans has been discussed by multiple governors across the United States.

Governor Abbott was joined by California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo with the idea that local sports teams should be able to start hosting games.

Abbott said on Monday that a number of Texas sports teams can apply to hold games and events that wouldn't include fans starting on May 31.

Games and live-streamed events could potentially start popping up next month!

The sports that are included in Abbott's statement are the classic local favorites football, baseball, and basketball, along with softball, golfing, racing, and tennis.

The Dallas Cowboys, along with many other sports teams and players, have been more than eager to get back on the field for some action.

Cowboys players Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith took to social media to express their excitement to get back in the game.

Teams across the state including the Spurs have been posting throwback videos, photos, and highlights of previous games that had the crowd going wild.

Games in the near future won't have any in-person spectators, which may make the games' overall atmosphere pretty different.

Governor Abbott took to the podium on Monday, May 18 to reveal the details of Texas' phase 2 that will begin this week.

Restaurants can open at 50% capacity whereas bars, breweries, and bowling alleys can do so at 25%. Many different businesses may start to open their doors to allow customers once again, including salons, parlors, stores, malls, and more.
