Here's How Irish People Reacted To Trying Canadian Desserts For The Very First Time
We all know Canada just does some things (cough, cough most things) better than most everywhere else. However, one thing we don't mess around with is our Canadian delicacies. From crafting the absolute perfect poutine to constructing the tastiest butter tarts - Canadians know what's up in the food department.
Just the other day our Irish neighbours wanted to put themselves to the test and see if they too could handle the greatness that is Candian desserts. Up on the docket were date squares, beaver tails, pouding chômeur, Nanaimo bars, and lastly butter tarts. All sweet, all delicious, and all VERY Canadian.
When it came to the date squares the reviews were mixed. A date square for anyone who hasn't tried one is a dessert bar or a coffee cake made up of cooked dates and brown sugar with an oatmeal crumble topping. One reviewer said "it tastes like a granola bar but if it was left in a swap of goodness" while another just kept saying "oh no" with a look of horror.
The beaver tails were much better received, with one gal commenting that it smelled like Christmas - and she was not wrong. At another point, we learn that apparently (allegedly), cinnamon makes your semen taste better than pineapples do ... so maybe beaver tails are actually good for you? And to the lady who asked if a beaver tail is what heaven tastes like, yes it absolutely is.
The pouding chômeurs were just met with groans of pleasure and a resounding consensus that it was the happiest thing you could eat in your life.
The bit about the Nanaimo bars and butter tarts are particularly hilarious, so I'll try not to ruin too many of the punchlines but to the guy who was surprised that Canada has chocolate, we'll have to introduce you to the Coffee Crisp.
To our Irish friends who took the time to try some of our Nation's favourite desserts, thank you and we love you for doing it!
