Toronto Drivers Actually Backed Up Traffic On The 409 To Do Donuts This Weekend (VIDEO)
If you ever want hundreds of Torontonians to despise you, try blocking off an entire highway to do some stunt driving, I guarantee you will see immediate results. A group of Toronto drivers became the 6ix’s least favourite people this weekend after they decided to shut down the 409 Highway to do donuts. That's right, a bunch of people actually closed off a highway so they could act like they were in Fast and Furious, sounds illegal and stupid, right?
As it turns out, it is both of those things. Sgt Kerry Schmidt of the OPP took to Twitter shortly after the video went viral to comment on the disturbing incident. “This is not only dangerous and illegal; it is disappointing when a mob mentality of hijacking a highway to make a scene like this is conducted. We are better than this...aren’t we?”
It was an argument that many others on Twitter backed up. However, some wondered how the police could let such an activity go on for so long. “It takes time to respond, depending on where the officers are coming from it could take longer,” Schmidt wrote after being asked why the police hadn’t shut down the wannabe drag racers.
In the video, several cars can be seen being used to block the highways as one vehicle spins out doing donuts in the distance. A gathering of people is seen gathering around watching the event. It appears as though the act was the effort of a group opposed to a single reckless driver.
Toronto police launched a driving safety blitz this Monday in an effort to encourage people to drive safely and stay attentive on the roads as commuting home gets harder in the dark and poorer weather.
Police will focus on speeding and impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving; it will also be increasing its on-street presence across the city.
