The city is asking residents to leave their festive lights up in order to spread some cheer during the lockdown.
This would add some extra sparkle to outdoor and distanced celebrations.
"Seeing our neighbourhoods litΒ up withΒ lights andΒ decorations has been a wonderful way to feel connectedΒ as a community," Kitchener Mayor BerryΒ Vrbanovic said in a press release.
"IΒ love the idea ofΒ stretching that festive atmosphereΒ into the new yearΒ asΒ we continue to get outsideΒ for safe neighbourhood walks and physical activity."
The city is also encouraging residents to enjoy the snowy season by taking part in the ReimagineΒ WinterΒ initiative, which offers safe experiences like walking tours.
Kitchener is planning some virtual celebrations to ring in the New Year as well.
