Surprisingly Jacksonville Ranks Worse For Water Pollution Than Other Major Florida Cities

Sad news for the local wildlife.

People come to Florida for more than just Disney - after all, we are home to some of the nation's best beaches. Unfortunately, with all the added tourism it also increases pollution, and our water quality is starting to suffer. While most of Florida ranks "moderate" for water pollution, Jacksonville seems to be the worst - ranking "high" in water pollution.

According to the information on Numbeo, a data comparison crowd-sourced global database, Jacksonville ranked worse than Tampa, Orlando, and Miami for water pollution. The overall water quality also ranks low for Jacksonville.

You can see a greater breakdown of the study results below (Jacksonville vs. Orlando):

While Jacksonville may rank behind the other cities with water quality, you can take a breath of fresh air; the air pollution is low making the air quality above average.

According to the website, these data are based on perceptions of visitors of this website in the past 3 years and if the value is 0, it means it is perceived as very low, and if the value is 100, it means it is perceived as very high.

This news may come as a concern to many, especially after last year's extraordinarily long bout of red tide. If you are concerned about the water and would like to do something to help save the environment you can partake in one of the many beach and waterway cleanups scheduled in the near future.
