Justin Trudeau Confirmed That His Mom Is "Doing Fine" After Being Taken To Hospital

There was a fire at her apartment building.

During his COVID-19 press conference, the Prime Minister took a moment to give a personal update. He explained that there was a fire at his mom's apartment building on Monday night. Although Justin Trudeau's mom was taken to hospital, he confirmed that she's okay.

On April 28, before speaking to the country about the global COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau started off with a personal update about his mom.

He addressed the news that she was taken to hospital on Monday evening, following a fire at her downtown Montreal apartment building.

"I know many of you have seen reports about my mom," he began.

"I want to let you know that I've spoken with her and she's doing just fine," Trudeau confirmed.

He went on to offer his gratitude to a few different people, including those who had helped his mother on Monday night.

"I'm thankful to everyone who's reached out and want to also thank the first responders who were there doing an extraordinary job," he explained.

In a similar tweet, the Prime Minister added, " I’m keeping the other families affected by this fire in my thoughts today.”

Earlier on Tuesday, reports surfaced that 71-year-old Margaret Trudeau had been taken to hospital following an apartment fire, and was being treated for smoke inhalation.

According to Global News, the blaze required 70 firefighters to get under control.

While Trudeau confirmed that his mother is doing just fine, he didn't provide any additional details about the fire, or whether she had suffered from smoke inhalation.

The Prime Minister wasn’t the only politician to give his mom a public shout-out this week.

On Monday, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh shared an emotional post about his mother on Instagram, and it was a pretty touching tribute!

"It's been a while since I've hugged my mom," Singh wrote in his caption. "While we all know how important it is to physically distance, especially for our loved ones who are more vulnerable, it's hard."

Aw, Jagmeet!

Margaret Trudeau has featured on her son’s social media a couple of times in the past too, and he’s always got something wholesome to say about her.

We're not crying, you are!
