An Ontario Woman & Child Were Hit By A GO Train On Wednesday

This is so upsetting 😢

News of people being struck by vehicles is common in Southern Ontario, but that doesn't make incidents any less upsetting. On November 13, a particularly frightening scene of a Kitchener GO Train crash saw an adult and a child hospitalized. The incident is also causing delays during evening commute time.

UPDATE: Ornge ambulance spokesperson Joshua McNamara told CBC the woman, who is in her 30s, has suffered "life-threatening injuries."

EARLIER: The adult was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital while the child was transported to McMaster Children's Hospital via Ornge Air Ambulance, according to CP24. People on site at the incident are said to be "traumatized."

According to CTV Kitchener, the incident happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday at a rail crossing near Kitchener GO. Witnesses said the lights were on and the crossing arms down when the freight train began to back up.

Waterloo Regional Police Service are currently investigating.

No trains are passing in this area for the time being.

According to a tweet issued out by Kitchener GO, trains that normally serve the Kitchener station will now end at Guelph. Shuttle buses will travel to and from Kitchener GO.

GO Transit had to cancel the 2:57 p.m. Union Station-bound train and the train that was scheduled to arrive in Kitchener at 2:47 p.m. has also been delayed.

It's unclear at the moment why the woman or child were on the tracks at the crossing.

The disruption is expected to continue into the evening, and shuttle buses will run from Guelph to and from Kitchener GO in the absence of trains on the line.

"Today is a difficult day," says Aikins in a tweet. "Our primary concern is the condition of the people injured at the crossing in Kitchener & our thoughts are with them."

Police are asking people and motorists to avoid the area until further notice.

Names, ages, or other details of the people struck have not yet been released.
