Vancouver Police Investigating Albertan Man's Fatal Fall On Stanley Park Seawall

Police and coroners are piecing together the details.

A 26-year-old Albertan tragically fell from the rocks above the seawall in Vancouver's Stanley Park and died last Sunday evening. It doesn't seem like the fall was suspicious, and police say there are indicators of it being accidental. There's no information out yet about what he was doing in Stanley Park, but VPD are currently investigating the man who fell off Vancouver's seawall.

Police and ambulance services arrived at the scene before 8:30 p.m. last Sunday evening, said Sgt. Aaron Roed to Narcity. Unfortunately, the man didn't survive the fall.

The site of the incident was just below Prospect Point of Stanley Park's seawall. Prospect Point is one of the highest areas in Stanley Park and its cliffs are fenced off for safety.

CTV News reports the man allegedly hopped the fence before falling to his death.

We don't know the specifics of how, when, why, or where exactly the man fell to his death right now. Roed said VPD is working together with the B.C. Coroner's service to piece together the case.

All we currently know is that the death appears accidental.

The Vancouver seawall is a popular tourist attraction, running the length of Stanley Park into False Creek. Its 5.5-mile length is frequented by runners and bikers throughout the year and is among the city's most popular sites.

That being said, the seawall is not without its dangers. The unnamed Albertan was not the first to fatally fall here.

"I imagine people who aren't from this area don't know how steep and treacherous that area is," said Roed to CTV News.

While the specifics of the situation are currently unknown, now's a good time to remind tourists and Vancouverites alike to be cautious when out and about.

The city has some of the highest bike-related accidents in the world, and some of these situations are entirely preventable.
