Miami Heat Just Brought Back Their Iconic 'Harlem Shake' Video
Some memes just never seem to die —or at least, they go on long hibernations before being reawakened by a Miami NBA team, and in this case, that’s exactly what happened to the 2013 fad of the Harlem Shake. After fans begged Miami Heat to bring back their hilarious old video, it finally resurfaced on the team’s Instagram account a few days ago. Needless to say, it’s still as entertaining as before, and they even shared a peek into the making of the magic!
Cast your mind back to the depths of your memories from 2013 and you may recall that the internet meme involved a group of people sitting idle while one instigator riles them up. While the exact origins of the meme are up for debate, it took the internet by storm.
The internet meme first began in 2013, and it wasn’t long before groups of people everywhere were making their own version. For the Heat, it was a chance to let their creativity and goofiness explode.
In the video, some favorite players with the biggest social media personalities, like Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, can be seen front and center. Chris Anderson, Heat center, kicked off the video by soaring into frame with his arms flapping like a wing, and when the beat drops, chaos ensues.
The video definitely requires more than one watch-through to catch all the wildness in the background. If you look closely, you can see Anderson standing bird-man style completely still in the back, while everyone whose face isn’t covered by a horse mask is simply grinning from ear to ear.
For as goofy as the boys can be, the video is a testament to how close they are both on and off the court.
Ray Allen is quoted in the video saying that, after being a part of the league for 20 years, he’d never been a part of something like this.
The Heat themselves left a comment on the new Instagram post recommending that viewers watch the video multiple times and keep their eyes on a different guy each time. It’s the only way to get the full effect!
