Vancouver Is One Of Canada’s Best Cities For Cheap “Micro Escapes” This Summer

The newest travel trend of 2020.

Finally, a travel trend millennials can get behind. Let's face it, not many of us actually have the time, money, or motivation that it takes to "vacation" as our parents' generation can. So instead of breaking the bank and booking a ton of time off work, a new travel trend called "micro escapes" has emerged and apparently Vancouver is the place to be if you want to get onboard.

Skyscanner has released a list of 2020’s top travel trends to give us a feel of what kind of trips Canadians will take this year.

They polled people from around the country and the vibe was consistent: people really want to chill.

“When it comes to travel, Canadians like to take it slow, unplug, and reconnect with the simpler things in life,” Skyscanner wrote.

Some of the travel types that Canadians vowed to lean into this year are “slow travel,” JOMO trips,” “local gastronomy,” “transformative journeys,” “sustainable tourism,” and, of course, “micro escapes.”

Though most of them are pretty straight forward and relatable, two stand out: JOMO trips and micro escapes. You’re probably wondering what the heck they are and honestly, so were we.

JOMO stands for Joy Of Missing Out, similar to the popular counterpart, FOMO. “a JOMO Trip is best served in a place that lives life at a slower pace where you can truly escape,” Skyscanner explains.

As for micro escapes, they are right up our alley. “a Micro Escape Trip is a perfect option where you can design a mini-vacation that’s just right for you.”

They explain that Canada has tons of amazing parks and it is easy to take a little one or two-night getaway to a local park or nearby city.

It’s a lot less pressure when you let your wanderlust run local (and affordable) in nearby areas.

The “Skyscanner tip” below the micro escapes description says Vancouver is the perfect place for these types of getaways.

"There’s nothing like a camping getaway near Vancouver, where after just a short drive you can get off the grid and back to basics, with epic mountain views to boot," they wrote.

They couldn't be more right. From Vancouver, you can hop on a ferry and be on a beautiful island in around an hour. Or, you can hop in the car and drive out to a lake in Squamish where you'll find beautiful campsites.

Whether you want to rent a cute little cabin on Airbnb for super cheap with your friends, go camping with your S/O, or keep it super simple and do a little solo trip, micro escapes are the way to do it.

Safe time, money, stress while getting the rest and relaxation you need. Stop making excuses, you can make this happen!
