According to the news release published on the official government Ontario website, the general minimum wage will increase from $11.25 to $11.40 on October 1st 2016. The minimum wage for liquor servers, minors, hunting and fishing guides and homeworkers will be increased as well.
This will be the 10th minimum wage increase since 2003. The government wants to create a "balanced plan to build Ontario up and help people in their everyday lives." The government passed a legislation in 2014 to tie minimum wage increases to Ontario's Consumer Price Index, in order to provide reliable increases for workers. As a result, workers earnings have increased by $2,392 per year, in comparison to three years ago.
