Parson Says State Is 'Headed In Right Direction' As Missouri Hits Lowest Cases Since March
The Show-Me State has been taking necessary precautions in order to decrease the spread of the novel coronavirus. Over the past week, Missouri saw a decrease in COVID-19 cases for the first time since March. These numbers not only bring hope to Missourians but also Governor Mike Parson, who has had nothing but positive things to say about his state all morning.
From May 11 through May 17, 2020, there was a total of 945 COVID-19 cases reported in Missouri, according to health officials.
This is the first time Missouri has seen less than 1,000 cases in a week since March, when 765 cases were reported on the week ending on March 29.
Missouri's stay-at-home order was lifted almost two weeks ago when Parson announced that Missouri would begin reopening in phases.
The first phase is set to come to a close by the end of this month, meaning phase two of reopening Missouri could soon begin.
According to the Department of Health and Senior Services, more than 146,000 people in Missouri have been tested for the coronavirus.
Parson tweeted this morning that over the weekend he chatted with Neil Cavuto from Fox Business about Missouri's economic state.
During the chat, he addressed that Missouri has seen a recovery in the state's economy over the past two months.
Following this same tweet, the Missouri governor had words of praise for the Show-Me State.
Parson replied to his initial tweet and added that "Restarting the economy was dependent on health care capacity and getting the virus under control, and I’m confident we have done just that."
"Although we have some hurdles to overcome, Missouri is headed in the right direction. #ShowMeStrong," said the governor.
Parson is doing what he can to get Missourian's spirits up now that his state is able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
He even declared over the weekend that May 17 through May 23 would now be known as "Emergency Medical Services Week" in Missouri.
This declaration came right before it was announced that Missouri had seen its lowest weekly increases of COVID-19 cases since March.
