What To Watch On Netflix Canada This Weekend If You're In A Spooky Mood
You don't have to admit that it's almost Halloween if you don't want to but there's never not a good time to sit back, relax, and get spooked. Movies can get us in the mood for literally anything and sometimes weekends are made for a good horror marathon. Netflix recently announced their "Netflix and Chills" campaign, where they're releasing a bunch of thriller movies leading up to Halloween. Because the campaign has just begun not much has been released yet. Luckily, Netflix keeps a lot of spooky movies and series streaming all year long. Here's what you should watch on Netflix Canada this weekend if you want to spook your way into fall.
If you're wondering what Netflix will be releasing for their "Netflix and Chills" campaign, some titles include In the Tall Grass, Fractured, In the Shadow of the Moon, Sinister 2, and Eli. There are also some titles listed below that are part of the campaign and have already started streaming! The good thing about the campaign is that they're being very genre inclusive, meaning not every movie they're releasing for Halloween is horror, some are psychological thrillers and steer far away from all the gore and jump scares.
Marianne
Rating: 100% on Rotten Tomatoes
If the 100% on Rotten Tomatoes wasn't indication enough, this french horror series is AMAZING. It was released last week as part of Netflix's "Netflix and Chills", and people were even warned not to watch the series alone.
Marianne follows a French horror writer who is shocked to find out that the series she wrote is actually happening in real life. Her investigation into the matter sees her returning to her hometown after years of not seeing her parents as she tries to figure out what's going on.
Stranger Things Season 3
Rating: 93% on Rotten Tomatoes
If you've already watched season 3 of Stranger Things, a rewatch never hurt! Some people may be wondering how Stranger Things could spook you out, but season 3 of this series was literally like watching a short horror series.
Stranger Things season 3 focuses on the Hawkins gang dealing with the aftermath of The Mind Flayer while also dealing with A LOT of teenage angst.
Eerie
Rating: 4.7/10 on IMDb
Eerie like Marianne is an international Netflix movie that will definitely give you a spook. The official synopsis for the film is, "When a student's suicide rattles an all-girls Catholic school, a clairvoyant guidance counsellor leans on a ghost to uncover the convent's abusive past."
Hereditary
Rating: 89% on Rotten Tomatoes
Hereditary may be one of the most disturbing horror movies I've ever watched. There's no way that this movie's obsession with decapitation won't spook you out. It follows a family dealing with the aftermath of their grandmother's death and discovering the horrific legacy their family is meant to carry out.
The Haunting of Hill House
Rating: 92% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Haunting of Hill House is another Netflix Original series and is a pure jump scare, ghost haunting, supernatural forces, kinda movie. It follows a family that moves into an old abandoned house, and through flashing between the past and present uncovers the horrors they experienced in the mansion.
It
Rating: 62% on Rotten Tomatoes
It: Chapter 2 just premiered, so what better way to get prepared for the film than by watching the first part? It follows a group of kids trying to save their town, which is being terrorized by a murderous clown.
The Purge
Rating: 39% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Purge is horrific because of how real it is. While all these other movies and series have a supernatural aspect to them, The Purge can legit happen. The official synopsis for The Purge is, "In a crime-ridden future when overtaxed cops let murder and other crimes rule the streets one night a year, someone's knocking at James Sandin's door."
The Perfection
Rating: 72% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Perfection premiered on Netflix a few months ago now but it still deserves all the hype. This psychologically twisted movie follows, "a once-promising music prodigy [who] reconnects with her former mentors, only to find them taken with a talented new pupil."
