793K Nissan Rogue SUVs Were Just Recalled In The US & Canada For A Risk Of Catching Fire

In rare cases, salt + water = bad things for the Nissan Rogue.

If you bought a newish Nissan Rogue during the pandemic, you might want to watch out.

Nissan just issued a major recall for its 2014-2016 Rogue models, citing a fire risk for the small SUVs.

The recall affects about 793,000 Rogues sold in the U.S. and Canada, after multiple reports came up of the models catching fire.

According to documents released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, corrosions can occur when a combination of water and salt enters the wiring connector in the driver's footwell.

As a result, the driver's power window or power seat can be disabled and cause the warning sign to go off or drain the car's battery.

There have so far been at least six reports of fire or "thermal incidents" in the affected models, The Associated Press reports.

Thankfully, there have been no injuries reported so far.

The recall comes after Canadian safety regulators opened an investigation into the vehicles back in July of 2020.

A few owners reported that they could smell something burning in their cars, and some even saw smoke when they parked their cars outside.

If anyone experiences these symptoms with their Nissan from those models, they should immediately get in touch with Nissan roadside assistance and have their car towed to a dealer.

Nissan expects to have a fix for the issue by springtime, and owners can expect to hear from the company in March about when they can take their vehicle to a dealer to be serviced.

The Rogue SUV is Nissan's top seller in the USA, reported ABS News.

If you think your vehicle might be affected, you can enter the Vehicle Identification Number online and check it through the NHTSA website or Nissan's website.
