This Is Officially The Worst Place To Park In Halifax
Halifax is officially one of the worst places to park in Canada, a fact which was recently uncovered in the research done by CBC’s Marketplace television program. Studies show that Haligonians are issued 181,790 parking tickets every year, and charged a total of just over five million dollars annually for parking violations, making us the fifth highest paying city in Canada when it comes to parking fees.
The biggest problem Haligonians face is the amount of parking tickets that are being issued. Per capita, Halifax receives more tickets per resident than any other city in Canada. In an effort to help you guys avoid contributing to this statistic, we went through an interactive map that listed all the places in Halifax where the most tickets were given out last year, to determine our cities worst place to park.
According to Marketplace, the worst place in Halifax to park is Lower Water Street, right by the Seaport Farmer’s Market and Pier 21. Last year 6,108 tickets were issued in this area, and the most common infraction was parking on private property, which costs a minimum fine payment of $20. It’s likely that it was mostly tourists who faced the brunt of this fine, but needless to say next time you’re hanging out on the waterfront or at Pier 21 make sure you’re keeping an eye on the metre!
Another spot to look out for is Robie Street and Cunard, right the Citadel Hill. 3,934 tickets were given out for the same violation – parking on private property – so again, it looks like this was mostly a tourist infraction, but it’s still worth being extra safe when parking in the north end.
