Ontario Police Just Stopped A Drunk Driver Speeding On The Highway With Small Kids In The Car

The 35-year-old man is now facing charges and the Children's Aid Society has been called.

Ontario Provincial Police say that a 35-year-old Brampton man is facing charges after he was caught going 180 km/hour on Highway 410 in the GTA. When police pulled him over, they discovered that the man was intoxicated behind the wheel. He also had two young children in the car.

CBC Breaking News reported this morning that the man registered more than three times above the legal limit of alcohol. The kids are just four and seven years old.

Ontarians are already responding to the tweet saying that the penalties should be doubled because the children's safety was put at risk. Some also believe that driver's name should be publicly released, as part of the OPP's new initiative to publicly shame drunk drivers.

The penalties and fines need to be increased substantially for drunk driving and names should be published!!

Can’t believe this. There is no excuse for why he was driving this fast. Penalties need to be more harsh for people like this.

Glad you caught him. Assume these were obviously all the possible charges? Wondering about something like reckless endangerment (if that's a thing here) since those kids lives were clearly at risk.

Penalties aren't strong enough.

The OPP has yet to release the driver's name. But, more details from the OPP newsroom or a Twitter update from Sgt. Schmidt is expected to follow.
