Ontario Hit With Power Outages By The "Most Damaging Storm" Of The Year Right Now

Already thousands without power due to the storm.

It's a dark, windy and stormy Halloween out there on Thursday, October 31 and there are already thousands without power in Ontario. According to a press release from Hydro One, crews are prepared for any Ontario power outages that have already started. They will restore power as needed during what they say is "expected to be the most damaging storm of 2019."

In the Hydro One press release, Lyla Garzouzi the Vice President of Distribution for Hydro One explained that they were taking a proactive approach to the storm. "Our crews are gearing up for a Halloween storm and will be vigilant if we are dispatched to any emergencies," they said.

There have been 45 reported power outages so far affecting approximately 4,842 customers. The estimated time to return power to affected customers is 6:30 PM EST. For more details on the outages, check out Hydro One's outage map.

Even though Montreal officially postponed Halloween until the weather improves, it wasn't cancelled in Toronto. We've known for some time now that the Halloween weather in Toronto was going to be just terrible. Plus, parts of Southern Ontario are even expected to get their first dusting of snow this week.

Right now, Environment Canada has issued wind and rain weather warnings for mostly Southern Ontario. Some parts of the province have wind warnings where they could see the wind whip at 90 km/h.

While Hydro One crews are getting into position all over the province in preparation for the storm, they reminded folks that they can do their part by having an emergency kit stocked with things like water, food, batteries, and a flashlight.

Even though the weather is terrible, you have to admit that it's fitting for a spooky day like Halloween.
