Ontario's Licence Plate Stickers Are Going To Be Gone For Good & Here's When

They'll also be giving back refunds, too!

Car owners will be happy to know they'll be saving some money soon, as Ontario licence plate stickers are officially going to be a thing of the past.

Starting March 13, anyone who owns a passenger vehicle, motorcycle, light-duty trucks, and mopeds, won't have to renew their stickers. Snowmobiles and heavy commercial vehicles, however, won't have a change to their licence plate stickers.

On top of that, the Ontario government will be giving out refunds for licence plate stickers too.

"Eliminating the fee to renew your licence plate and refunding the cost of doing so for the past two years is a concrete way we can put and keep more money in the pockets of hard-working Ontarians," Premier Doug Ford said.

Before this, motorists in southern Ontario had to cough up $120 a year, while drivers in northern Ontario shelled out $60 each year to get their licence plate stickers renewed.

"This is just another step we're taking to make life more affordable," Ford said during the February 22 press conference.

The Ford government has been working hard to make things easier for drivers in Ontario.

As of April 5, Ontarians who avoided Highways 412 and 418 because of the tolls can now hit the roads without paying any fees (though, unfortunately, drivers will still need to pay to use Highway 407 express toll route.)

Ford also announced he is working hard at constructing the Bradford Bypass and expanding Highway 413 in hopes that it will bring on faster travel times for drivers, too.
